About eleven months ago I had dinner with a forty-nine-year-old man named Alexander who suffers from extreme depression, has relationship issues, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As mentioned by Alexander, it is his alcoholism and drug addiction and his severe depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship and friendship difficulties, especially those that concern love.

I recall hearing that a history of mental health concerns, drug abuse, and careless and hazardous drinking commonly happen in the same family. Moreover, I remember hearing that in such situations, an individual needs to get counseling for both medical conditions and that dependency and mental health problems tend to occur in the same individual.

As stated by Alexander, he is so overcome by his intimate relationship problems and by both of his medical problems that he in effect has no aspiration to accomplish much of anything. What is especially unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander completed four semesters of grad school in environmental and urban studies.

Alexander’s situation makes me question if he is an illustration of an individual who can look in the mirror and see his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something constructive about these issues or if he is a person who has to hit rock-bottom before he gets drug and alcohol addiction treatment that results in long lasting recovery.

The Need For a Treatment Regimen He Can Believe In and a Therapist He Can Trust

If it would be beneficial I would expect that I could suggest several websites and blogs that could possibly help him learn more about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, substance abuse information, and relationship difficulties. In my honest opinion, nonetheless, Alexander needs to find a rehabilitation program he can believe in and follow through over the long term and find a healthcare professional he can trust.

I could be in error but it seems to me that Alexander probably needs to look within himself regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and understand the fact that he cannot use drugs or drink at all if he wants to get sober, stay sober, and start on the route to long-lasting sobriety.

It may be asked how treatment would help his alcohol and drug dependency. For starters, there are several recently produced doctor-prescribed drugs that can help Alexander avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse, help him through the drug and alcohol detox process, and help him through his withdrawal symptoms.

Second, Alexander would learn to acknowledge the fact that there is completely nothing affirmative about drug abuse and unhealthy and abusive drinking and that involving himself in one or both circumstances is the route to deteriorating health, shattered relationships, a premature death, financial difficulties, legal problems, and poor work and school performance.

Third, treatment for his relationship difficulties and his depression might help him cope with these psychological problems more effectively and help create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior.

The Significance of Support Groups Such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous

There are feasibly several friends, family members, and other people who would desire to help Alexander with his drug abuse and his abusive and unhealthy drinking. He possibly would experience greater tolerance from a support group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, on the other hand, rather than listening to individuals who do not drink or who have never used drugs.

When People Accomplish Things They Love and About Which They Are Passionate

There’s a philosophical attitude that proclaims that people who accomplish things they love and something about which they are dedicated arrive at a splendid place in life. Stated more exactly, when people do what they enjoy, they hardly ever experience an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is gratifying, moreover, they become more complete and experience more pleasure and delight in life, in their friendships, and in their relationships.

When this is thought about even for a few minutes it becomes obvious that this uplifting state of mind is quite a bit different from a life that is grounded in alcohol and drug dependency because such a lifestyle removes the contentment and delight that life offers.

Due to the fact that Alexander doesn’t have the determination to achieve much of anything in his life, it is plain to see that he desperately needs some hope for a healthier life. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Alexander if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he requires for his acute depression and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and remain in his treatment routine.

More Positive Relationships, A Wonderful Life, Self Respect, and Beneficial Change Are a Reality

Alexander is simply too young to be dejected in life. He doesn’t realize this right now but if he can learn how to stay away from alcohol and drugs through alcohol and drug rehab and get the counseling he needs for his intense depression, he can redirect his life and start living with passion, direction, and with self-respect.

Better relationships, positive change, self respect, and a wonderful life are certainly possibilities for Alexander if only he could get motivated to seek the medical rehabilitation he requires, follow through with his treatment regimen, live his life in a healthy and dependency-free manner, and learn how to develop a more positive attitude about his life.

For a number of years alcohol dependency research has demonstrated the fact that there is strong association between alcoholism and serious health conditions and mental health issues such as depression.

For example, in 2005, medical exploration and alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics demonstrated the fact that that alcohol abuse and alcoholism cost the United States an estimated $220 billion per year. It can be emphasized that this gigantic alcohol-related cash outlay was significantly more than the cost linked with cancer ($196 billion) or with obesity ($133 billion). While it is relevant to accentuate these facts, it is also important to point to the fact that an interrelationship exists between all three of these health problems.

To be exact, chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency are also highly associated with obesity and with cancer.

Without a doubt, substance abuse research has demonstrated the fact that alcohol dependency can augment the risk for different types of cancer, particularly cancer of the voice box (larynx), esophagus, liver, rectum, colon, kidneys, and throat. Abusive and recurring drinking can also lead to immune system problems and impairment to the fetus during pregnancy.

Irresponsible and Heavy Drinking Weakens the Person’s Systems and Organs

Furthermore, if alcohol dependency continues over a period of years, the individual’s body organs will more likely than not be affected in an unhealthy manner. As an illustration, chronic, hazardous drinking is especially injurious to the liver due to the fact that the liver does most of the work of processing the alcohol that has been ingested. Extreme amounts of alcohol kills liver cells and destroys the ability of liver cells to redevelop. This medical condition results in a progressive inflammatory malfunction of the liver that can in the long run lead to cirrhosis of the liver, a grave and potentially deadly disease. Heavy, long-term drinking not only can result in acute liver damage, but it can also result in damage to the heart and to the brain. Physical damage this serious may be irreparable and may, in turn, result in severe ill health or premature death.

The Significance of Alcohol Rehabilitation

It is important, then, to know how to recognize the different alcoholism symptoms and the “alcohol signs” so that the alcohol dependent individual can be given the opportunity to get the professional alcohol rehabilitation he or she needs.

Alcoholism and Sophisticated Brain Exploration

Fortuitously, scientific investigation is relentlessly finding novel and important information. Recent alcoholism exploration offers a good example. More correctly, for approximately the last ten years, sophisticated brain-imaging scanning instruments have shown that continuous and long-term excessive drinking changes the constitution of the brain to a significant extent, thereby resulting in brain disease that can last months, years, or conceivably as long as the person lives.

More correctly, medical exploration has demonstrated that individuals who have been drinking abusively for a sizeable length of time increase their risk for developing long lasting and substantial modifications in the brain.

This type of damage may be directly related to severe liver disease, to the alcohol’s effects on the brain, or might be indirectly associated with the drinker’s poor overall health.

Mental Disorders, Malnutrition, and Excessive Drinking

As a final illustration of different medical conditions that are considerably related to alcohol addiction, take into account the fact that according to scientific research, the abusive and repeated abuse of alcohol can lead to erosive gastritis, a condition that lessens the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.

This type of organ malfunctioning is associated with malnutrition and to a variety of acute neurological and mental disorders including sleep disturbances, memory loss, and psychosis such as Wernicke’s Encephalopathy and Korsakoff’s syndrome. This latter health problem is a lasting debilitating health problem that is typified by recurring learning and memory difficulties.

Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking Also Leads to in Friendship and Relationship Difficulties

In addition to acute health issues, abusive and excessive drinking also leads to friendship and relationship issues. As an illustration, people who engage in abusive drinking typically experience affairs, divorce, sexuality problems, and marital problems.

Summary: The Importance of Education

It is plain to see that repetitive, excessive drinking is directly or indirectly linked to many severe medical problems that can and do result in dangerous ailments and premature death. Such information needs to be underlined and presented to everyone in our society, especially to all students, so that a large number of people will be able to refrain from hazardous drinking while other individuals who have a drinking problem will get the professional therapy they require.

Let us look at this with a common sense perspective. Yes, alcohol rehabilitation is significant, but alcohol rehab is something that is usually done AFTER the fact. Education, to the contrary, is something that is done BEFORE the problem arises. Stated a different way, whereas alcohol rehab is “reactive,” education is “proactive.” It is stated that both approaches are required when discussing alcohol problems.

Teresa was a thirty-one-year-old accountant who knew that she had some problems with her drinking. For example, within the past four months she has felt the need to have a few drinks before going to work, four weeks ago she tested positive for a hair alcohol test at her place of employment, three weeks ago she got pulled over by the police for a DUI, and last but not least, for the last six months she has begun to fail to remember what she says and does when she drinks with her buddies.

Similar to many other people, Teresa’s involvement with alcohol started out at a “snail’s pace” and stayed at this speed for quite a long time because sometimes she engaged in casual social drinking. In actual fact, for approximately seven months, every time she went out with her buddies to drink, she made sure to drink responsibly. Something about her drinking circumstances, however, seemed to totally change when she got divorced.

So She Can Get Over the Loss of Her Husband More Rapidly, Teresa Made Up Her Mind To Start Hanging Around More Regularly With Some of Her Pals Who Love to Party

Teresa got dreadfully dejected about the breakup with her husband, and as a way to quit dwelling on her disheartening feelings she decided to begin hanging out more frequently with some of her buddies who love to have fun drinking.

Quite sincerely, Teresa thought that having fun nearly every day by getting a “buzz” by drinking with her buddies would help her recover from the breakup of her husband in a less troublesome manner.

Teresa’s Drinking Increases Significantly the More Routinely She Goes to Private Parties, Family Get-Togethers, Happy Hours, Dinner Dates, and Sporting Events With Her Friends

It didn’t take very long, nevertheless, before her drinking escalated considerably the more often she went to and drank at happy hours, dinner dates, private parties, sporting events, and family get-togethers with her pals. In addition, the fact that her drinking pals were all quite a few years younger than she was and therefore able to party and drink more carelessly was one of the reasons that she didn’t center more of her attention on her increased drinking. To put it briefly, she was having lots of fun drinking just like everyone else in her group of pals without much forethought about the negative effects of her excessive drinking.

Yet in the recesses of her mind she knew that she most likely needed alcohol counseling but steered clear of the thought as much as humanly possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical Examination, Discloses the Truth About Her Abusive Drinking to Her Physician, and Discloses the Truth About Her Dejection

One late afternoon during her six-month physical exam, her doctor asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her doctor, Teresa disclosed the truth that she regularly drinks more than she should. As a matter of fact, she stated that she frequently drinks in an irresponsible and hazardous manner. Then Teresa told her doctor about her sadness. More plainly, she mentioned that ruined relationships more often than not elicited a negative chain of events typified by increased drinking which further resulted in more depressing feelings that, in turn, resulted in more drinking. And this is precisely what happened when she and her husband got divorced seven months ago.

When her physician heard this, he told Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was reviewing, alcoholism and depression frequently come about in the same individual. He then told her that some of the alcohol statistics, research investigations, and facts he has been reading about also underscore the fact that people who drink in a hazardous and excessive manner and who also suffer from depression need to get treatment for both medical circumstances.

Teresa’s Healthcare Professional Schedules an Appointment for a Psychological Appraisal and For an Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse Assessment

Teresa’s physician then articulated the following: “I am not trying to make a spur-of-the-moment judgment, but with your medical situation we may be confronting two separate issues. Consequently, I think we probably need to schedule an appointment for you to get an alcoholism and alcohol abuse appraisal from my partner, Dr. Michaels, who is an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency specialist. Whether your drinking problem is more associated with alcohol abuse or alcoholism is unclear at this time, but I feel that further assessment is warranted. Then I think we need to make an appointment for you to get a psychological exam from another one of my partners, Dr. Patterson, who is a psychologist. I want to get some more information about your depression and see how much your depression and drinking are related.” Teresa showed her satisfaction with her physician’s plan of attack and thanked him for his time and assistance.

In truth, Teresa now felt a sense of personal happiness and self esteem because she finally got inspired to do something positive about her abusive drinking and her depression. What is more, Teresa also realized that after alcohol counseling she would be better able to boost her commitment and communication in her relationships and friendships. Now all she had to do was to try to lessen her drinking and get ready for her appointments.

I know quite a few young guys who work in construction who manifest drinking behavior. After working hard in the sun or in the cold all day, it seems “logical” to go to the local pub to have a few beers with one’s drinking pals. Usually, however, it seems that the well-intentioned few drinks turns into a predicament in which a lot of shots and beers are consumed, several dollars are spent, and several hours are spent at the local bar rather than spending time with their family, wife or girlfriend, or with their friends.

Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Can Result in Relationship, Friendship, and Marital Issues

Is it actually all that flabbergasting in these circumstances that several my hard working pals experience alcohol induced financial problems in spite of the fact that they make a good wage? How comflex can it be for my hard working buddies to realize that drinking behavior usually results in marital, communication, friendship, commitment, and relationship problems? Why are these alcoholism and alcohol abuse signs so difficult for these construction workers to see?

Excessive and Unhealthy Drinking Can Result in DWIs, Work Problems, a Host of Health Problems, and Various Mental Health Issues Like Depression

Should it honestly be surprising to anyone that my hard working buddies could receive a DUI almost any night or day of the week? Is anyone sincerity dazed when these construction workers begin to make mistakes at work due to their irresponsible and hazardous drinking?

Does it truly shock anyone to know that these construction workers eventually complain about alcohol-related health problems such as hangovers, alcohol poisoning, a loss of energy, and sleep disturbances? Is it honestly astounding that many of these hard working men are beginning to experience different mental health issues such as depression? Why can’t these hard working guys “see” these alcohol abuse effects?

To a great extent, my hard working pals have gotten into a rut that is resulting in a life of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction. My desire is that my hard working friends will eventually understand that heavy and excessive drinking is unhealthy and that they need to talk to their doctor or someone at the local alcohol counseling facility about their drinking situation.

Concerning the drinking problems exhibited by these hard working men, the point to emphasize is that honesty is needed. Indeed, my hard working friends, not unlike others who engage in excessive and hazardous drinking, need to look within themselves and make an honest assessment of what heavy and irresponsible drinking is doing to their jobs, to their health, to their relationships, to their finances, and to their mental health. In a word, these hard working men need to realize the alcohol side effects of their hazardous drinking.

There’s Room For Optimism If Those Who Engage in Careless and Excessive Drinking Can Become Persuaded to Get the Alcohol Rehab and Alcohol Detoxification They Need

These hard working guys need to get inspired and motivated about wanting to make a favorable change in their lives. Stated more forcefully, these hard working guys need to get motivated to go to their doctor or to the local drug and alcohol rehab clinic and determine whether or not they are mainly abusing alcohol or if they are dependent on alcohol. Based on the information that is unveiled, these hard working men then need to get the alcohol rehab and the alcohol detoxification they need.

The positive news is that there’s an almost limitless number of rehab programs, treatment centers, drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals where my hard working friends can get quality rehab for their heavy and hazardous drinking. And with some effort, it’s even possible to find treatment centers, drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, and rehab programs that are fairly inexpensive.

First-Class Alcohol Abuse or Alcohol Addiction Help Can Start With a Phone Call

There were certainly times in the past when top-of-the-line help for alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction was more expensive and far less available that it is now. Due to the noteworthy increase of alcoholism and alcohol abuse in the past decade, however, an alcoholic or an alcohol abuser commonly has few, if any, common sense excuses for failing to face her or his heavy and excessive drinking.

In actual fact, to begin the change process all it frequently takes is a short and to the point phone call to one’s physician or to someone at the local alcohol counseling center. Thereafter, lasting sobriety requires follow through, commitment, and a truthful desire to change one’s injurious style of life.

Work was becoming too frenzied for a young police officer named Gary. Even though he had only been on the police force for two years, he was already known as a hard worker who rarely turned down working overtime. In fact, he was now working twenty-five to thirty hours of overtime each week and, as a consequence, he felt like he was losing his handle on his personal life. What made the situation more complex, however, was the fact that Gary began going out drinking with a bunch of his fellow officers after his shift was over.

What Began as Fun With The Guys Soon Turned Into Unhealthy and Excessive Drinking

What began as fun soon turned into excessive and unhealthy drinking and then into a viscous cycle of feeling tired each morning when he got up for his shift, working more overtime hours, and then going drinking with his pals after work.

Obviously Gary was in a rut and going through some adverse alcohol effects on the body. Where Gary really experienced drinking related difficulties and alcohol short term effects, conversely, was in his family life and in his marriage. His wife wasn’t really a complainer, but she regularly begged him to stay at home more with her and with the kids rather than going out and spending money while drinking with his fellow officers.

Gary’s Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Negatively Affects His Personality

In a similar way, Gary’s excessive and hazardous drinking also adversely affected his personality. Stated briefly, the more abusively he drank, the less patience he had with any difficulties or issues that arose regarding his children or his wife.

It Was Obvious to Gary That His Excessive and Unhealthy Drinking Was Adversely Affecting His Relationship With His Family, Work, Pocketbook, and His Health

In his heart of hearts, it was clear to Gary that his unhealthy drinking was adversely affecting his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health. So one Friday afternoon Gary decided to talk to Jerry, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Gary told Jerry how excessive and unhealthy drinking was adversely affecting his health, work, relationship with his family, and his pocketbook. Jerry told Gary that he totally understood because just around fifteen years ago, he too involved himself with irresponsible and excessive drinking. In point of fact Jerry stated to Gary that careless and hazardous drinking can create so many problems in an individual’s life that just about everything of significance can be ruined. And lastly, Jerry suggested that Gary schedule an appointment with an alcohol therapist at the work-affiliated substance abuse rehab facility.

Since his employee’s assistance program was affiliated with this rehab center, it was not only quite convenient but also very affordable to obtain treatment about his irresponsible and excessive drinking. And since the staff at the substance abuse rehabilitation facility was supportive, non-judgmental, and competent, Gary would be able to get alcohol rehab that made sense to him and something he could accomplish.

After talking to his counselor about how his drinking was ruining his relationship with his family, health, pocketbook, and his work, Gary understood that he was burning the candle at both ends with his crazy work hours and his abusive drinking. Once he comprehended that he was getting himself into a rut, with the assistance his counselor, and after twelve weeks in rehab, he was finally able to stop drinking and quit working overtime.

Due to His Alcohol Therapy Gary Felt Better and More Healthy

The result was that Gary viewed life differently now that he was in alcohol recovery. Simply put, due to his alcohol rehabilitation he not only was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, but he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, he had more quality time to spend with his family, and he felt better and more healthy. As luck would have it, now that he stopped drinking, Gary and his wife were not only starting to save some money for a new house but he also felt more alert and more energized than anytime since he and his wife got married.

Love is natural, irrational and very important – as succinct a definition of this intangible emotion as anyone has found, so thanks to Lisa Hoffman for having the clarity of thought to provide it. Love is the most important of all the feelings and emotions we experience; it binds families and strangers alike in the most powerful of emotional connections and of all human feelings, it has the greatest physical impact in our world.

For love, wonders of the world have been built, wars fought, cures found, continents discovered and immeasurable happiness and sadness for billions.

There are many glib quotes dealing with love and marriage but while humorous they fail to grasp the importance of loving and being loved. Certainly, a wry sense of stereotypical humor can be gleaned from love being blind but marriage the cure, nevertheless, it’s a very sad man or woman who is not loved. Love is more than a potent feeling of bliss created by the release of chemicals and hormones, love defied definition and remaisn the greatest most redeeming quaality within humanity.

Love at first sight may seem a miracle, but the really miraculous thing is when two people discover they have been looking at each other for a lifetime. Love is what glues and binds people together but there is not free. Free love is a myth because it is the most expensive commodity of all – it is plentiful and almost inexhaustible, so by the laws of supply and demand it ought to be free or at least very cheap. Ask anyone who is in love with their partner what value they would put on the feelings they have of being loved and in loving and the credit card catchphrase, “Priceless!” will be the most common honest answer. Love is not about wedding rings, engagement rings, flower arrangements, or prenuputial agreements. It is something tangible, but intangible.

Love is the great leveller in society and human relationships – it transcends geography and distance, bridges racial divides and has no respect for social status, wealth or education. Love can make its presence felt in milliseconds or take years to nurture, it follows its own rules and no-one knows what they are. Is this irrational? Certainly it looks that way, but we cannot be sure simply because we don’t know what love is – we can see what love does to and for people.

Is it irrational to be happy because we are loved? To be loved is a great feeling and very important for our well-being and sense of self – it is one of the greatest presumptions of arrogance to want to be loved. Who we really are is probably best defined by who loves us and perhaps by how long we have been loved.

Love and marriage are disparaged with enthusiasm, but if this combination is such an unholy alliance, why then do so many individuals seek it out and remain married for decades. Even those who divorce will usually remarry – our communal and personal experience is to partner love with marriage – this is basic to our nature but why do we do this? Perhaps Mark Twain has the answer, “Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century.”

Get my wife back! Is that the only thing in your head these days? It was exactly the same for me when my partner left. There is light at the end of the tunnel though, I can promise you that.

What can I do to help?

You can start with no contact with your wife at all. It can work wonders being alone for a while. You can use the time to get control of your emotions.

You can think about your plan of action while you are apart. Will you just hope & pray your wife walks back through the door? Or you might decide to get up off your butt and do something about getting your wife back.

There’s another bonus to spending time with no contact. Your wife will start to notice your absence. And if you are at least in your wife’s thoughts and not her face that’s a good thing for you.

What shouldn’t I be doing?

Do I really need to spell it out? Harassing your wife won’t help. Calling or texting too many times. Following or (please no) stalking will end any hope of getting them back.

Drink & drugs should never be used as an emotional crutch. Any or all of these things can at best drive your wife further away. You may even wind up in trouble with the police.

The last thing you need to do now is wreck any remaining chance you have. If you blow it with a stupid move then any plan you have is worthless. You could easily see your plans in tatters.

The plan to get your wife back.

The plan has already been written. You probably already realise but you’re not the first to get dumped and hope to “get my wife back“.

Emotional abuse can be subtle and it has long-term effects to the person who has experienced constant criticism and accusation. One of the damages that emotional abuse can cause is that it would be really hard for you to accept your condition. This article will help you identify the problem and work over it.
You would be developing behavioral patterns like remaining aloof, having a low self-esteem and confidence and will make you hate yourself. This is prone to depression and anxiety. The picture of you being abused will linger in your thoughts. This is not easy because you will be carrying this burden throughout your life.
Emotional abuse can be traumatizing. You have to deal with this too. If only there is something that you can chew that would make it vanish forever! But it does not work that way. It’s really that you have to do the work to re frame your memories and re-shape your mindset.
Here are some steps to help you move on:

Acceptance is the key! You must accept that you are being abused. You will get nowhere if your mind is set into believing that abusive behavior is normal.

Stop feeling guilty!. You are not responsible for the abusive behavior of your partner.

What has happened; has happened. In your life, there are bad chapters that you should try to forget.

Be confident to yourself and realize your self worth.

Love yourself for what you are and try to remember the kind of person you are before.

You really can’t make a conscious decision to “forget” your past because healing will come with time. If you think counseling is necessary, then find a good counselor. In time you may find someone else to share your experiences with, but that’s not something you should focus on while you’re healing.

What you can do is use the information in your past to help you with your future. Healing emotional abuse requires patience and trust to yourself and others who can help you. Everything in the past will recast in a different light If you allow things to happen.

It is important for you to realize that you have to move on and do what you want in your life.

To your happiness,

The comfort and security that a long term relationship provides can offer you and your partner the chance to fall into gender roles or reverse gender roles that can suck some of the life out of your relationship. When you were younger you approached the world as a team, each doing their part to keep the team running. When that feeling starts slipping away it is time to check in before trouble eats through the relationship.

Material objects to aging concerns, men and women come at life from different angles. If a guy is feeling his success in a new Panasonic 1080p plasma TV then so be it. Meanwhile women often need to set aside a budget portion for anti aging skin cream and beauty cosmetics. While women fight off the advancement of age they are also fighting hard to be taken seriously and compete well within their workplace.

Many still believe that much of today’s successes and failures still rest on the woman’s shoulders. It’s rare that women don’t have to join the workforce in order to make the bills every month. Yet they are also charged with much of the housework, the need to look younger than they really are, to stay in shape, and to be able to earn their equal pay.

The more we explore this idea the more that we will find that there are plenty of families that live up to this stereotype. Wives have fallen into their role and men have fallen into theirs and over time each stops really thinking about it until someone balks their unhappiness.

Long term relationships are not always passionate and wildly maddening the way they are in the beginning, but keeping the relationship stoked while you keep your autonomy is part of living in a successful relationship. It’s not always easy to come out of your own head and pay attention to the situation at hand.

It’s not so much about compromise, like people say. It’s more about supporting. There is no reason that one partner has to give up something so the other can have it. Rather, it is more about finding a way that both can have what they want. In a supportive relationship each half of the relationship ends up feeling pretty good about the overall result.

Because a relationship is made up of two unique people, there is a certain amount of natural separation that will occur. Over time, you still have to bring it back around to support and understanding if you want it to stand the test of time.
